Artist Biography

I am a Colombian painter based in New York, driven by a passion for vibrant colors, intricate patterns, and captivating stories. My artwork has been showcased in museums, galleries, and independent spaces across the USA, Italy, Japan, and Colombia.

With a touch of humor and whimsy, my paintings often delve into the realm of Magical Realism, blending fantasy and reality. Inspired by the rich cultural heritage of my native Colombia, I weave together diverse elements to create unique, visually striking pieces.

Artist Statement

Sandra Mack-Valencia is a painter that loves stories. Sandra grew up in Colombia, listening to fairy tales and urban legends that translate into the narrative aspect of her work. Now she lives and works in her adoptive city, New York. She nurtures her work from many sources: found images, book remarks, experiences, movies, fashion, etc. Sandra combines photo transfer with drawing and painting. Photography references to both reality and memory, while drawing and painting allow her to bring an intuitive response to the materials and the process.

Combining drawing, painting and photographic collage, the search for beauty is an essential part of her work, which Mack-Valencia sees not only as aesthetic pleasure but also and above all as a critical commitment that can unite people.
