As a Canadian painter working largely in the historical genre, Timothy deVries' art practice consists of three related objectives: artistic growth, environmental stewardship, and fidelity to his interests. Largely self-taught, he started painting with some friends in the basement of a student house in Toronto almost twenty years ago. His work was inconsistent and unfocused, but he loved the immense challenge of giving voice to his inspiration within the physical constraints of paint and canvas. Artistic growth became an important part of his practice, and through perseverance, he has continued to hone his craft. He takes full responsibility for the environmental impact of his art by using recycled paints and repurposed frames, and by making art that lasts.
