The upper two-thirds of the painting are dominated by a serene blue-purple gradient, reminiscent of the sky's gradient at dawn or dusk. This vastness is subtly animated by streaks of warmer tones, which could be interpreted as the distant play of sunlight on the clouds or the reflection of a setting or rising sun.
Below this ethereal sky, a band of muted blues and grays stretches across the canvas, representing the sea. Here, the artist has created a sense of depth and movement through the interplay of color and light, suggesting the reflective surface of water.
The lowest section of the work features warm earth tones that ground the composition, symbolizing the sandy shore. The artist's use of texture is evident here, with the paint applied in such a way to mimic the granular nature of sand and the foam of waves receding from the shore.
In "Waves," the artist's brushwork is delicate and controlled, using a blend of smooth gradients and soft brushstrokes to imbue the piece with a sense of peace and stillness. The overall effect is one of simplicity and purity, where color and form are reduced to their essence to convey the meditative qualities of the sea.
