Artist Statement

My journey as an artist began in the quaint market town of Norfolk, England, where my childhood was filled with the enchanting beauty of the countryside. This idyllic upbringing, marked by playful adventures and close-knit family bonds, profoundly shaped my imaginative and creative outlook.

My early interest in art found a concrete form in photography, a passion ignited during my time working for a nearly blind estate agent. Tasked with photographing properties using an Olympus Trip, I discovered the magic of capturing moments and stories through the lens. This initial spark led me to immerse myself in the technical and creative aspects of photography, starting as an assistant in Norwich and eventually running my own studio.

Throughout my career, I have always been fascinated by the intersection of creativity and technical precision. Whether working with large format film to create still life compositions or experimenting with digital techniques, my goal has been to blend meticulous craftsmanship with a deep artistic vision. My work often features objects from the past, evoking nostalgia and inviting viewers to reflect on their own memories and experiences.

My artistic process is both deliberate and intuitive. I begin by visualizing an image in my mind, carefully considering the arrangement and lighting of each element. This meticulous planning allows me to capture the essence of my subjects, revealing their inherent beauty and character. Recently, I have focused on creating intricate images of fresh and dried flowers, a subject that resonates with themes of time, decay, and preservation. I am also exploring the idea of the flower as an icon, and object or thing regarded as a representative symbol or, as worthy of veneration.

Encouraged by my wife Caroline, I returned to photography after exploring various entrepreneurial ventures. This renewed passion has led me to establish a small home studio, where I continue to create and refine my art. Each piece I produce is a testament to my commitment to storytelling through imagery, combining technical skill with a heartfelt appreciation for the world around us.

As I promote my limited edition prints and participate in exhibitions, my aim is to share my unique perspective and connect with a wider audience. My work invites viewers to pause and appreciate the intricate details and stories that everyday objects can tell. Through my art, I hope to evoke emotions, spark memories, and inspire contemplation.
