Signed oil on canvas in a simple bespoke wooden, shadow gap frame. A winter landscape that over looks the marsh that will, at high tide be covered by the Irish sea, isolating the tiny fishing village of Sunderland just hinted at on the low horizon. This is from a continued series of paintings that focuses on the the Lune estuary and surrounding area in north west Lancashire.

Artist Biography

Born in Manchester UK. Studied art in Blackpool and Newcastle Upon Tyne. Chris Macauley worked in the building trade for a decade, after which he began teaching art in Leicester. He has had two one man shows in London, one at Leicester Universities Attenborough arts centre and appeared on Sky Arts landscape Television. Macauley has work in private collections throughout the world, as well as receiving portrait commissions privately and through Mckay Williamson - Art Advisory London. Most recent painting was exhibited with the Royal Society of Marine Artists at the Mall Galleries London.

Artist Statement

Expressing light through colour and the arrangement of form are as important as the representation of the scene. Chris Macauley is not a subject specific painter. Whether he is working on still life, portraiture or landscape, he is always trying to find out what the painting is about, the subject matter is not really the subject matter.
