The painting titled 'to sacrifice the shadow' by Eddie McClure is an abstract composition that utilizes a vibrant interplay of color, form, and text. The artwork is characterized by its vertical orientation and an ethereal mix of hues that creates a dreamy, atmospheric quality.
The color palette of the piece is predominantly made up of pinks, purples, and blues, with splashes of red and hints of yellow, creating a background that appears to be in a state of flux—suggestive of a sky at dusk or dawn. These colors are applied with a blend of techniques, including washes, drips, and more opaque applications, lending the piece a sense of depth and texture.
Amidst this colorful backdrop are various marks and symbols that seem to float across the canvas, some resembling human or animal figures, while others take on more geometric or abstract forms. These elements appear almost as if they are in motion, contributing to the dynamic feel of the painting.
One of the most distinctive features of this work is the inclusion of text. The phrase "we don’t have to be afraid anymore" is written in a casual, almost childlike script, suggesting a message of hope and liberation. The text interacts with the rest of the composition, bridging the gap between visual art and language.
The title 'to sacrifice the shadow' may allude to themes of letting go of fear or darkness, a concept that is mirrored in the painting's light-infused colors and the uplifting message inscribed within it. This piece challenges the viewer to find coherence among the abstract elements while pondering the introspective narrative suggested by the words and imagery. It is an invitation to explore the interplay between the visible and the psychological, the tangible and the emotive.

BIOGRAPHY
Hi my name is Eddie McClure, I am based on the gulf coast of Florida, and I do my best to participate in creation. “Self taught” with formal experience, I’ve spent the past 2 decades either working in creative fields or holding a close personal creative expression as a passion. Over the years I’ve found painting to be a place of repose and the most accurate medium to convey and share my multi-sensory experience as well personal commentaries.
Artist Statement: I look to create paintings that are eclectic, colorful, and inspiring. utilizing rhythmic markings, obstructed patterns, vintage ephemera, and transparent mediums to bring subjectivity into visual form. I hope to invoke introspection and personal reflection in the people that see my works. A doorway for them to lead themselves instead of me saying where they should go.
