BIOGRAPHY
Born into an artist family and growing up in postwar Munich Germany, my life was surrounded by art from the start. My father was a sculptor, he worked in stone and my mother painted flowers. Taken at a young age to Art Museums and Galeries gave me from childhood on a tremendous appreciation for Fine Arts and deep respect for the artist.
Nevertheless I needed to learn that even my many travels, either to Europe's vibrant cities, across the Atlantic to the American continent, or to the hidden islands of the Pacific didnt help me to find the slumbering Artist within.
It was not until I met my wonderful husband Jeff Hukill, a great Artist and Painter, whose steady encouragement inspired me to enroll and take a sculpture class. There I found I LOVED CLAY and immediately it became my medium.
It was like a divine hand had struck a match and ignited the flame ... and now the fire of being an artist is burning brightly in my heart
Artist Statement
With my art I want to express the joy I have for life and the great trust in its rhythm and flow.
I was very exited when I found out about the technique of Majolica Glaze on my ceramics which let me use the colors in full brightness.
Therewith I want to express the boldness we need to step out into life and trust it's flow... those moments when we overcome fear and hesitation and do with love what we love to do.
The form of a ball developed out of my many travels and love for people ... all over the world people play ball ... when I throw you a ball and you catch it we have a connection and with my colorfully decorated ceramic balls this is exactly my intend - to connect and convey the happy moments life can bring. Sigrun Hukill
