Artist Biography

Manuel Ursprung is a German-born, British-based artist with national exposure. He specializes in three-dimensional reliefs made using a quick-setting gypsum plaster. Ursprung creates a new mold for every piece made of either carved dough, wood pieces or plastic objects. Each work is highly textured and often inspired by urban and natural landscapes.

Artist Statement

Manuel creates three-dimensional art to express experiences through traveling, daily life and people he has met along the way.

It’s very inspirational for him, to re-create captured memories through a three-dimensional picture. Which may appear to be something different from the initial captured moment to the final executed imagination of a memory.

Looking deeper at his work might encourage people to share their experiences and interests. It’s a representation of distinctive aspects of life. Furthermore, it gives me the opportunity to learn about others, their passions and values.

The artwork is made from plaster of Paris, which makes each piece very unique. Every single imprint is hollow which makes this art delicate. Each individual mould is made of either carved salty dough, card, wood pieces or plastic objects. All materials for the moulds are subject to what he wants to express and create. Therefore, it is a very unique way to achieve certain shapes.
