BIOGRAPHY
Piotr Antonow is a Chicago area-based portrait artist born in Poland in 1965. He specializes in larger-scale portrait and figure paintings. Most of his portraits are paid commission work although many of his figure paintings are available for sale.
Artist Statement
While portrait in its various flavors is my thing, it is amazing how little information I acquire about my portrayed subjects. I do not ask questions about their lives, personalities, likes, and dislikes - I simply observe. I think that the things we deal with during our lives get recorded onto our faces and I, by looking at the person for a long time during my process, am being given an opportunity to discover these recordings and to transfer them into the visual language.
