BIOGRAPHY
(Born 1988) Originally from Poland, Karolina Zglobicka now lives and works in Valencia, Spain. Having moved from Poland to England and then to Spain, she found inspiration in exploring the theme of relocation and the changes that challenge the familiarity of the spaces we inhabit. Her journey has led her to contemplate things left behind and those that adapt to travel with us continuously. In her recent paintings, Zglobicka examines the physicality and meaning of objects that surround us. She places them in a reminiscent setup, isolating them from their natural surroundings to emphasize their influence on memories. Her focus is on the things we lose, misplace, discard, or treasure as souvenirs. The compositions in her paintings appear staged for performance, showcasing past events, everyday situations, or alternative scenarios that could have been but never happened. Viewers of her work are invited to engage in an interplay between chosen objects, feeling the tension between selective memory and the ubiquitous symbolism hidden behind figurative representation.
The context of the selected subject matter challenges the boundaries of familiarity and imagination projected onto what we see. Zglobicka draws her main inspiration from family photos and objects found on the streets of Valencia, infusing them with new histories through her artistic reinterpretation.
