My artwork explores the multifaceted landscape of social, political, and cultural issues in Iran. Inspired by the intricate tradition of Minakari or enameling, I aimed to infuse my work with the deep-rooted symbolism of Iranian heritage. Through Minakari, I discovered the profound significance of "Mina", derived from the Persian word for paradise, evoking images of celestial beauty. Similarly, "Kari", meaning "to do" in Persian, encapsulates the craftsmanship inherent in this art form.
Delving further into Minakari, I uncovered its connection to another Iranian emblem: the azure ponds known as "Hoz". These serene waters, symbolic of paradise in Persian gardens, served as the backdrop for my piece. Drawing from an Iranian Minakari plate, I blended its tranquil blue hues with the peaceful waters of the Hoz.
At the heart of the composition, the emphasis is on a red and orange goldfish with its vibrant colors symbolizing the eternal cycle of life. Beyond aesthetics, they deepen the narrative, contrasting with the tranquil scene to evoke the interconnectedness of existence.
Ultimately, I aimed to intertwine these symbols, crafting a spiritual narrative that invites viewers to engage with Iranian identity, tradition, and spirituality on a profound level.
