I had a dream where I was painting this piece, exactly how it is. At that time I was in a state of depression due to the fact that I was acknowledging the strength of racism in Portugal. In this dream I had the idea from Van Gogh being depressed and eating yellow paint to become happier. Black happy like Van Gogh.

Artist Statement
With a visual language in constant development, Blackson is inspired by the black body, which he represents in his paintings and affirms in society. He adds layers of color, creating sensations in the observer that seem contradictory at first sight but are harmoniously combined on the canvas. Between happiness and melancholy, harmony becomes the motto of his work and vision, where freedom and symbolism are recurrent and central aspects of his artworks. He has been experimenting with new mediums to express his art, such as tiles or installations.
