Artist: William Joe Josephs Radford
Certification of Authenticity: Apricus Art Collection

Gradient Loss marks my debut exploration into black and white fine art photography, a medium chosen to navigate the layered, often inexpressible emotions that followed the passing of my father. By pairing a red lens filter with monochrome settings, I sought to express the muted spectrum of grief—a rainbow of feelings quietly dimmed during a time of profound personal loss.
Stripping away the distraction of color allowed me to focus on form, light, and negative space, creating a visual language grounded in shadow and stillness. This body of work blends abstract self-portraiture with experimental photographic techniques such as lens masking, light painting, and ghosting. Each piece moves between the visible and the internal—reflecting the tangible world I continue to live in, and the invisible emotional landscape shaped by absence.
Each work in the Gradient Loss collection is a limited edition of 10, printed on Hahnemühle William Turner 310gsm—a museum-grade, archival fine art paper that enhances texture, depth, and permanence. Signed and numbered, these collectible prints are ideal for collectors seeking emotionally driven, conceptually rich black and white art.
