Description

These subversive and aesthetic nude photo series "FUCK 1969" were taken during a "Happening" event organized for Kanoh by Japanese contemporary artist Yayoi Kusama at her New Yorker studio in 1969. The impromptu, spontaneous and natural shots express the sexual liberation spirit of the 60s.

C-002 uses infrared color film, which was the first to be sold to the general public in New York at the time. This film had the unexpected effect of making skin waxy white, blood vessels visible, and bright red lips yellow.

It is constructed from a white aluminum composite panel with a stretcher bar on the back.

AWARDS: Japan Advertising Artists Club Award, Asahi Advertising Award, Mainichi Advertising Award, Annual Calendar Award, Poland Poster Award, etc.

Artist Statement

In addition to his more than 60-year career as a photographer, Tenmei has been creating digital art and canvas art since around 2010, and has held numerous exhibitions both domestically and internationally.

Tenmei Kanoh has long prided himself on being a photographer who turns the pages of the times, and he was one of the first to tackle the digitalization of photography. This did not stop at fine-tuning the exposure, but led to the creation of new works by making dramatic changes. Eventually, he moved beyond prints to canvas works with acrylic touches, transitioning to his current style. The "Pink Dog" series in particular exudes a worldview that was unimaginable from Kanoh's previous style, and was met with astonishment by the public.
