"Finding Myself" by Camille Storck is a nuanced exploration of form and color, utilizing both acrylic and oil pastels on canvas to create a composition that is at once introspective and expressive. The piece is a rich tapestry of interconnected shapes and layers that suggests a journey of self-discovery and complexity.
The color palette is soft yet varied, with pastel hues of peach, mint green, and lavender, juxtaposed with more saturated tones of orange, deep green, and earthy browns. This careful selection of colors contributes to a sense of harmony and balance within the piece, while also allowing individual elements to stand out and capture the viewer's attention.
Storck employs a mix of organic and geometric forms, with curved lines and arches intersecting with squares and rectangles, creating a visual language that is fluid and open to interpretation. The layering of these shapes, along with the textural contrast between the smooth acrylics and the more tactile oil pastels, adds depth and dimension to the painting.
In several areas, the artist has used the oil pastels to create marks and scribbles that seem to denote writing or symbols, perhaps signifying thoughts, ideas, or emotions that are part of the introspective process the title "Finding Myself" suggests. These gestural marks bring a personal touch to the work, implying a narrative or dialogue within the painting.
The interplay of transparency and opacity in the application of the mediums creates an ethereal quality, as if some elements are emerging while others recede, mirroring the ebb and flow of personal growth and the evolving sense of self. Overall, "Finding Myself" is a contemplative piece that invites the viewer to delve into the layers of meaning and consider the complexities of identity and self-expression.
