The artwork titled 'Feeling Blue' by Disha Prajapati is an evocative oil on canvas that employs a powerful contrast of hues and an emotive, textural application of paint. Dominated by a palette of blues ranging from deep indigo to lighter azure, the painting features a central, abstracted form that could be interpreted as a face. This form is executed with a vigorous impasto technique, where the paint is applied thickly, creating a relief-like surface that adds depth and dimensionality.
The vigorous brushstrokes convey a sense of movement and raw emotion, while the highlights and shadows are amplified by the tactile quality of the paint's application. The background is a stark, flat yellow, which creates a dramatic contrast that accentuates the cool tones of the blue and imparts an intense vibrancy to the composition. The use of color in this piece is symbolic, with the blue possibly representing feelings of melancholy or introspection, as suggested by the title 'Feeling Blue'. The yellow backdrop might imply a surrounding of energy or a stark emotional landscape against which the subject is set.
The combination of the abstract form and the expressive technique results in a work that is charged with psychological intensity, inviting the viewer to reflect on the emotional states that colors can evoke. The simplicity of the composition focuses the viewer's attention on the texture and color, making these elements the primary vehicles for the artwork's expressive power.

ARTIST STATEMENT
As an expressionist mixed media artist hailing from India but now rooted in the vibrant energy of Los Angeles, I navigate the complex intersections of identity, belonging, and the quest for authenticity. My artistic journey explores the contrasting worlds that have shaped me – a childhood away from home and the ongoing search for a profound sense of self. My work delves into the intricacies of what constitutes a “Home”. Does it originate from blood ties, or can it be cultivated within the depths of one’s being? The idea of authenticity perplexes me, as we are inevitably shaped by the people we encounter and our environments. Can one indeed be authentic without acknowledging these influences? Through my art, I confront these questions head-on, unravelling the layers that define the essence of individuality. Through my mixed media creations, I deeply introspect, questioning the boundaries between self and surroundings, past and present. My art serves as a mirror for the ever-evolving individual, a testament to the malleable nature of identity and the potential to construct a sense of home from within. As I reconcile the diverse influences that have shaped me, I aim to inspire a dialogue that transcends cultural, geographical, and temporal boundaries, inviting all to contemplate the intricacies of their existence.
