"Fashion Stripes" by David Dunleavy is a striking piece composed of hand-cut strips of card stock arranged in a meticulously organized array. The artwork is characterized by its vibrant, vertical stripes that exhibit a rich variety of colors, each stripe positioned next to the other in a tight sequence. The colors range from deep blacks and browns to bright pinks, greens, blues, and yellows, creating a visual spectrum that is both rhythmic and harmonious.
The precision of the hand-cut card stock strips suggests a disciplined approach to the craft, with each strip appearing to be of uniform width and cut with exacting straight edges. The arrangement of the colors may follow a specific pattern or could be random, which adds an element of surprise and complexity to the composition. The variance in color suggests a playful yet sophisticated exploration of hues, reminiscent of the color blocking techniques used in fashion design.
The piece is framed in a simple, white frame that creates a stark contrast to the colorful composition, allowing the vibrant stripes to stand out and command attention. The frame not only adds to the artwork's aesthetic by providing a boundary but also protects and preserves the delicate paper medium.
Overall, "Fashion Stripes" is a celebration of color and pattern, likely inspired by the dynamic world of fashion, where similar motifs are often found in textiles and clothing designs. Dunleavy's work could be seen as a nod to the ever-changing trends in fashion, where old styles are continuously reimagined into new visual forms.

Married to the wonderful Wesley who gives me room to explore all the tangents. Together we are amazed and delighted on a daily basis with our beautiful daughters. Originally from Galway on the wild west coast of Ireland, I now live in Los Angeles. My friends would say I'm the last person to have a creative artistic side but I've been a non-practicing artist all my life. My engineering mind informs the construction of my 3-dimensional and highly textured paper art pieces. It has me taken a long time to share my work; I hope you enjoy it!
