Artist Biography

From a young age, creativity was both a refuge and a necessity for this artist. Born with a fierce, expressive spirit that often manifested in frequent temper tantrums, a simple box of crayons became the solution to their restless energy, channeling emotions into vibrant drawings that quickly became an integral part of their world. Early drawings often centered around people—particularly women adorned with big, dramatic hair and fabulous outfits, sparking an early fascination with the possibilities of expression through form and color.

Though involvement in sports and other activities later took center stage, art remained a private passion, surfacing intermittently through elective courses in college and a few informal classes. This sporadic relationship with art extended for years as other pursuits and the demands of adult life intervened. Only in 2020, during a hiatus due to a flare-up of a chronic back condition, did the artist finally return to the world of visual creation. Seated by necessity, they reconnected with drawing and ultimately took on the challenge of painting, launching a transformative journey that saw them complete nearly seventy paintings in just three years.

Largely self-taught, the artist now works primarily with acrylics on hardboard panels, exploring an eclectic range of subjects from still lifes and landscapes to figures and interiors. This breadth of subject matter reflects a curiosity and willingness to experiment, while the artist’s unique yet undefined style—often described as primitive and naïve—draws the viewer in with its honesty and charm. Despite lingering self-doubt, the artist sees their journey as a profound blessing, as they continue to evolve, embracing new techniques and themes with gratitude and vigor.

Artist Statement

Art has always been both my escape and my challenge—a paradox that has defined much of my life. From the moment I first started drawing, art was the one thing that could calm my restless mind and provide a sense of order in the chaos. Today, I feel like that child again, exhilarated and a little wild, as I continue to explore the world of painting. Each piece is an exploration, a leap, and a learning experience. My style? I’m told it’s unique, even if I can’t quite see it myself. Perhaps, like many artists, the style is something I simply can’t see from the inside.

Working with acrylics, I paint a wide range of subjects, inspired by everything from nature’s beauty to the essence of human form, seeking out the small details and unexpected elements in each piece. My work might be described as naïve or raw, and I accept that—my intention is not to perfect but to explore, to experiment, and to capture some slice of truth that speaks to me. Art is now my obsession and my peace, a place I can both lose and find myself. And while I still wrestle with doubt and anxiety about my abilities, the joy of creating far outweighs those fears. Here’s to the journey—to trying, to learning, to being utterly consumed by the creative process. Viva la Art!
