Artist Statement

Jess Lawrence is an artist whose work is defined by simple yet emotionally captivating scenes, surprising color themes, and fluid lines. She draws inspiration from natural and man-made landscapes, micro landscapes, and the purity of children and animals. A self taught artist, Jess grew up in the impoverished farm lands of the American Midwest, where nature and art were invaluable outlets for creativity.
Since then Jess has made a home in the Boston area, becoming influenced by the city's cultural and architectural diversity. Her process involves photographing landscapes and subjects for reference, which are then reimagined into acrylic paintings that reacquaint the viewer with a sense of wonder. Her bold imagery and dynamic color schemes awaken a sense of nostalgic joy.
