Artist Biography

Kat was born in Kansas City, MO. At the age of 10, her family moved to San Carlos, CA. She has lived in many areas in Northern California, and on the North Shore of Oahu HI. She currently resides in Hollister, CA and works from her newly built home studio.
As a child, Kat dreamed of becoming a high fashion designer, as her father worked for Vogue Fashion Marketing in NY. There was never a shortage of fashion catalogues around the house to inspire her. She spent countless hours making drawings of the models, lost in her dreams of greatness! She continued her art-making throughout her school years, falling in love with line and form. Kat resumed her education in her mid-20’s, studying art history, painting, sculpting, and design at a local college, as she raised her young family of 2 boys.

Kat worked in the Silicon Valley electronics industry for many years as a silkscreener, and later as a Quality Director. Throughout her life, Kat continued to paint, sculpt, and draw. For a number of years, she had a small business at home printing her original pen & ink drawings on glass and shirts. After a few years away from art making, she began painting again in 2009, under the instruction of Laurie Johnson Lepkowska and the late Duke Collins. She has not stopped creating since.

Artist Statement

I believe that the desire to create is a basic human characteristic. It manifests itself in almost everyone, in one form or another. My need is to create art. On a very rudimentary level, I think that the act of creating art is really an act of love.

Throughout my life, this need has growled like a deep hunger within, unsettled and always unsatisfied. As soon as it is fed, it always craves more. I am passionate about using my art to capture the emotional snapshots of everyday human life. The sorrows and storms, the beauty and joy, and most of all the resolute power of the human spirit to overcome. Visualize hope; paint despair; create peace on my canvas: these are my challenges. These triumphs and tragedies can be so easily overlooked and sometimes forgotten, but they are the very fabric and color of our humanity. We can find encouragement in honoring them. By interpreting what I know and feel, I memorialize these moments and make them tangible.

I mostly paint realistically in oil , and I love to sculpt. With each piece, regardless of style, medium, or subject matter, there is always some extent of self-discovery and healing that occurs. These passages are naturally infused into my art, and I believe they speak to the viewer. My most sincere desire is to, in some way, enrich other people's lives with my work.
