BIOGRAPHY
Rashad Babayev, is a multidisciplinary artist and filmmaker belonging to a generation of Azerbaijani artists that are transforming the contemporary art landscape of Baku. His artistic style reflects an entrenched expressionist yet minimalist approach utilizing different colors as his language.
His debut solo exhibition was in 2004 and ever since he has taken part in numerous international exhibitions across the globe, as well as the 55th Venice Biennale, Philips de Pury auction house and many other exhibitions across Moscow, Rome, Vienna, Paris, Berlin etc. Babayev’s works are held in the Museum of Modern Art in Baku and other private collections local and international.
He has expanded his artistic practice into filmmaking, his short films and feature film have participated in various international film festivals, including prestigious A category film festival.
Artist Statement
Painting is a mysterious and intimate process for me. I believe that personal intuition and irrationality dictates my style. Colour is the absolute essential element for me in a painting.
