Artist Statement
Tim Carroll's figurative paintings are full of vibrancy, mystery and imagination.
From ceramic trees to paintings of dancing figures, all his pieces are at once exciting and harmonious, fun and sophisticated. The balanced colours and compositions are pleasing to the eye, whilst the active group of figures and exotic settings create a strong narrative quality and sense of mystery.
Tim gained a BA in Fine Art at Leeds University in 1982. Since then his work has become enriched by the places and cultures he has encountered during his travels to India and Italy. He is also inspired by Celtic knotwork, English literature and early Italian Renaissance art to create his multi-layered images of the human figure.
Despite varied cultural influences, Tim has maintained a strong connection to his home town, Swindon, where he has lived since the age of ten. Tim has completed several local projects, which have involved the documentation and renovation of public art for Swindon Borough Council, and an extremely well-received series of paintings, '100 Views of Swindon'.
