Alebrijes are part of Mexican Folklore. A man named Pedro Linares had a dream with strange and colorful creatures. All constructed of different animal parts. When he awoke he created paintings and animals of carved wood in the forms he saw in his dreams and called them Alebrijes.
La Lechuza is also found in Mexican Folklore. There are legends that say witches can turn into owls. These creatures are known as Lechuzas.
I combined both legends in this painting because I find these stories interesting and believe that perhaps they were used as a way of scaring children into not being out late at night.

My paintings are contemporary abstract. I love combining the beautiful colors and lines of abstract painting and combining them with everyday shapes, animals, and spaces. Resulting in a vibrant or fantastical painting that will brighten the viewers spirit and brighten the room!
I was born and raised in west Texas. I graduated from UTEP in 2004 and married my best friend, Mike in 2008. Sixteen years later, we have two beautiful children, two adorable pups, and lots of love! I help to care for my elderly parents who are both suffering with Parkinsons. Painting has been my emotional therapy and my hope when I am happy.
