My name is Reed Decker. I am a photographer originally from Southern CA. Growing up I always surrounded by creativity. Photographers, a director, a rockstar, artists, authors, explorers all make up the pedigree of a wildly creative family. There was never any pressure to pursue a creative field or endeavor. It was an organic manifestation to continue the family legacy to create that was always more of an honor than an obligation. I've always been a very curious person and found the camera as a remarkable tool to literally stop time in its place. That has always fascinated me...
While studying photography I learned the power of light and shadow to shape a subject. Using light naturally and/or artificially, to create depth, mood, and drama when capturing the essence of people and places.
My photographic style is influenced from an eclectic mix of fashion, hip-hop, street, and portrait photography. I always strive to bring out a subdued intensity in all my subjects whether shooting an athlete, rapper, dancer, or even an animal or landscape.
Artist Statement
The power of photography and art in general is that it is a powerful muse that only intoxicates more as time goes by and hopefully reflects your progression and evolution as a human and an artist. You cannot decouple your art and creativity from yourself and nor should you attempt to. As much as light and shadow, composition, technique all matter in art and photography, I try to bring a "mood" out in my work which is the best way to connect with a viewer. Without mood there is no emotion or intrinsic attachment to the work.
