Lina Faroussi
The Visual Chronicles of Lina Faroussi
Lina Faroussi's art reflects her journey through life’s constant transitions. The fifth of nine children, she was born in Latakia, Syria, and spent her early years in the city by the Mediterranean Sea, forming an inseparable bond with her family. Though warm and loving, her childhood was marked by her father’s imprisonment and exile due to political conflict. These experiences laid the foundation for her art, which explores personal and collective narratives.
After relocating to Athens, Greece, and later Alexandria, Egypt, Faroussi pursued a bachelor's degree in commerce to fulfil family expectations but never abandoned her passion for art. She trained under professional artists and participated in exhibitions, even while working in marketing in Dubai for a decade.
It was only after moving to Toronto in 2008 that she fully embraced her identity as an artist, studying at the Toronto School of Art and immersing herself in painting and mixed media.
Over the years, Faroussi’s work has grown, and she has entered the international art market, exhibiting in solo and group shows throughout Canada, The United States, Europe, and the Middle East. Her artwork has been published in international art books and magazines, including Art International Contemporary Magazine, Art Tour International Magazine, Polychromia International Art, and International Contemporary Artists book.
Her unique approach—layering texture and colour to create deeply symbolic narratives—earned her prestigious awards including the EA Effetto Arte in Milan, where she earned the International Caravaggio Prize, the Circle Foundation for the Arts, where she received a certificate of excellence, and Art Tour International, where she was named a top 60 Master in New York City.
Her art, often rooted in the landscapes of her Syrian upbringing, seeks to transcend cultural boundaries and explore universal truths.
Beyond painting, Faroussi runs her own small print business, She has created a self-branded printing company, “Lina’s”, in which she prints her works onto the interior design and wearable textile pieces.
And she also coaches aspiring artists through online & in-person workshops & art classes. As she states, “I want to help art lovers and creative souls to express themselves through the art of painting .I believe that art is a form of meditation and transcendence of the soul”.
Agora Gallery NY, described Lina’s art as a reflection of "a passionate journey of the soul," offering viewers a window into her transformative life, filled with rich cultural experiences and emotional depth.
Artist Statement
In all my paintings, I work toward conveying emotions or ideas rather than reality. There is always an inner dialogue in each of my artworks, reflecting human’s constant desire for evolution and prosperity.
I paint primarily in acrylic combined with a variety of media, including fabric, Japanese paper, clay, sand, and photo transfers.
I can relate myself to expressionism and figurative art style! Most of my artworks depict human figures; it is dream figures reflecting real emotions.
