John Lehet
John Lehet has been creating photographs as prints since the late 70s. His range of technical depth ranges from scans of sheet film made with a view camera to modern high resolution cameras with the best modern prime lenses and also interesting vintage lenses. Current work is printed on archival papers with different surfaces appropriate to the image, with archival pigment inks.
Artist Statement
My work encompasses a range of styles. As my vision has evolved over many years, I have retained many threads as I have explored new ones. I'm still printing traditional landscape photos from film in the 1980s, but some of my new work is quite different. In the last decade I've added vintage lenses adapted to modern cameras and explored the way these lenses draw, and worked with the way beautiful blur mixes with paper textures of watercolor, etching, japanese, and natural papers. I also print on a Baryta paper that looks like old time fiber based darkroom paper where that's the best choice.
In recent years, especially since Covid lockdown, my work has evolved in some ways. During that period I felt a need for beauty; I wanted an endorphin hit from a beautiful image.
