BIOGRAPHY
Jane’s art draws from a rich source of life experiences: as an educator, a play therapist working with children who have experienced trauma and setbacks, and a creator and trainer of programs for children and teachers in the world's most vulnerable communities. Her training in textiles and as an interior designer has been a constant influence in her life and art practice, and her desire to maximize texture in her work led to the inclusion of collage. The accidental and serendipitous connections that random pieces of paper make during collage work can result in some exciting and innovative work, becoming the signature of her earlier work.
Artist Statement
The vivid sights and sounds, the intense heat and wildness of my early years in West Africa, have certainly inspired my love of color, texture, and free mark-making. For me, art is the language of the soul, the gateway to sustaining inner balance, and an avenue for bringing hope to the world; hope that comes from making, appreciating, and owning art.
My art is never planned, but led from the heart and curated through a slow and intuitive discernment process along the way. I’m inspired by my travels and have created series from my times in Italy, Ibiza, and Bali. I want my work to communicate playfulness and a bold call to delight in the innate ability we all have to live a creative life.
