Bob Leonard
I live in New York City and use photography mainly to create abstracts, scavenging my environment with an eye for shapes and color. These images are transformed into something unrecognizable and presented as composites. The series "Reinventions," "Walls" and "Joyful Curves" explore these ideas.
“Stories” is an ongoing project where I combine four images, typically found objects and artifacts, connected by a specific theme, shape, or color. "Covid Stories," is my observation of the pandemic in New York.
I'm a long-term member of the Soho Photo Gallery. My work has appeared in Lenscratch, La Domenica, a publication of Repubblica Nazionale, and YourDaiyPhotograph.
An image from the Walls series was selected by juror Debra Klomp-Ching in the NYC4PA Abstract 2020 competition. In 2023, an image from the series, "Stories" was chosen by Paula Tognarelli, Curator and former Executive Director of the Griffin Museum of Photography for the RICPA 9th International Juried Exhibition.
Artist Statement
I create composites typically from found objects and artifacts connected by theme, shape, or color. They present a narrative of a place, moment in time, or a thought.
