BIOGRAPHY
Allan Baillie was born in Washington D.C. in 1941. He studied art at the Richmond Professional Institute and participated in a summer program at the Academia di Belle Arti in Rome, Italy. He later completed an MFA at the Maryland Institute, where he studied with Grace Hartigan and Sam Gilliam. Baillie has worked as a professional photographer and fine artist, with exhibitions across the world. His current work focuses on botanical photography, with a strong environmental message, expressing concern about climate change’s impact on nature.
Artist Statement
By revealing the design and art in botanicals, we can still see the earth’s wonders through photography and witness what nature once looked like. This beauty sustains us in ways that can be experienced through the details found in botanicals. My fear is that these botanicals will not be available in the future due to climate change.
