Sandra Mack-Valencia is a painter who loves color, patterns, and stories. She grew up in Colombia, listening to fairy tales and urban legends that translate into the narrative aspect of her work. Now living and working in New York, she finds inspiration from many sources: vintage photos, literature, films, fashion, etc. Sandra often combines photographic transfer with painting, using photography to reference both reality and memory, while painting allows her to bring an intuitive response to both materials and process. She has developed a wide range of painting series such as queens, landscapes, animals, circus characters, and candelabras. Although different in content, they share a feeling of magical realism and her love for storytelling. Her work has been exhibited in museums such as El Museo del Barrio and the Coney Island Museum in New York, as well as the Museo de Arte Moderno and the Museo MAJA in Medellín. Her paintings have traveled to Colombia, Amsterdam, Japan, and Italy, where she was part of a public space project through OffSite/ArtBridge.
