Aaron Jaymes Booker, known as Jaymes Earl, is a Houston-based artist originally from El Paso, Texas. Growing up in a military family, Jaymes lived in North Carolina and Germany before settling in El Paso. He pursued a degree in mathematics from Prairie View A&M University but always maintained a strong connection to art. As a child, he enjoyed building models and illustrating comic strips. However, it wasn't until the fall of 1998 that he fell in love with hip-hop music, which significantly influenced his artistic direction. Jaymes' work focuses on the cultural shifts brought about by hip-hop, examining how elements once considered taboo have become mainstream in today's pop culture. His art highlights the evolution of status symbols, such as sneakers and flashy jewelry, and their roots in traditional African cultures.
