Mountain Milk and Thingvellir's Beauty
Jónsdóttir's artist statement reveals the inspiration behind the painting: "Long time ago our most famous painter, Jóhannes Kjarval, painted at Thingvellir work he called the 'Mountain milk'. At Thingvellir National Park many beautiful hiking routes can be found. On one of them I found this small creek, and I thought about the Mountain Milk." This statement situates "The White Waterfall" within a specific artistic tradition. Jónsdóttir's painting is a direct response to Kjarval's iconic work.
