Article: A Journey Through Mediums and Meanings

A Journey Through Mediums and Meanings

Frillici's artistic journey began with painting, studying at the Academy of Fine Arts in Perugia. However, she quickly expanded her practice to encompass installation, video, and photography, creating a rich tapestry of interconnected works. In the 1990s, she was already experimenting with unconventional materials – everyday objects, glass, plastics, and photographs – to create evocative sensory and narrative experiences.

Her work often incorporates faces, sourced from various places, manipulated, and re-contextualized. These faces become fragments of identity, encapsulating moments in time and inviting us to contemplate the lives behind them. As Frillici states, she seeks to invite viewers "to imagine the totality of a person and their life," through these fragments.

Beyond the Studio: Collaboration and Community

Frillici's artistic exploration extends beyond the confines of the studio. She actively engages in collaborative urban and social projects, bringing together diverse groups of people to create large-scale installations. By merging photocopied faces of participants with acrylics and other materials, she crafts what she calls "The substance of the images"—a textural exploration of image materiality. This approach highlights her commitment to connecting local and global communities through art. Examples of these projects include Ex-Voto Suscepto (2017), and Cazzotto, an art festival organized between 2017 and 2019 in Perugia in collaboration with artist Gianni Piacentini.

Vibrations: Exploring the Ephemeral

Inspired by her travels in India, Frillici's latest series, "Vibrations," delves into the ephemeral and interconnected nature of existence. These works feature human reflections captured on mirrored surfaces, drawing inspiration from quantum physics and the idea that "matter does not exist, and everything is vibration." This series marks a compelling evolution in her artistic exploration, pushing the boundaries of perception and inviting viewers to contemplate the very essence of reality. This journey will culminate in 2025 with a solo exhibition at the Art Gallery of Banaras Hindu University in Varanasi, symbolizing a dialogue between Italian and Indian artistic traditions.
